Let’s explore how to rest in a way that lasts — without waiting until you’re exhausted.
Summer can be more than just a pause — it can be the beginning of a new rhythm.
Some schools in the UK are closing soon, others in two or three weeks. Either way — many of us are getting ready for the holidays. And even if your break means staying home this year, this post might still be for you. Because it’s not just about going away — it’s about how we rest, and whether we actually make space for it… before life speeds up again in Autumn 2025.
Holidays Help — But They Don’t Last Forever
You might hear yourself saying, “Can’t wait for the holidays!” It’s such a common thought — one I often hear from clients, and one I’ve had myself.
We count down to that one moment in the year when we hope everything will reset. But the truth is: most people feel rested for a few days… and then the tension returns.
Research from occupational health psychology (de Bloom et al., 2012) shows that while holidays do bring more joy and relaxation, those effects often fade within 1–2 weeks after returning to work.
Your Nervous System Needs Rhythm, Not Rescue
Your brain and body don’t just need time off — they need consistent signals that it’s safe to slow down. And that’s where micro-rest can make a big difference. These are small, doable pauses in your day that help regulate your nervous system over time. Examples?
- 10 slow minutes with your morning tea
- 15 minutes in a quiet space, just to be
- 15 minutes of hypnosis or deep relaxation
- A short walk without your phone
- Saying no without guilt
- One deep breath before your next task
These things might seem small, but they’re powerful when done consistently. They protect your energy before it runs out.
Why Summer Is a Good Time to Begin Something New
We often put off support — thinking we’ll look into therapy or hypnotherapy “after the holidays” or “in September.”
But actually, summer is the perfect time to start:
- Longer days give more space to reflect
- The pace of life is slightly softer
- There’s a natural readiness for new habits
- And starting now means you’re not playing catch-up in autumn
Whether it’s support, reflection, or simply a reset of your rhythm — this season can hold it.
You Deserve More Than a Break
So yes — enjoy your holiday. Deeply. Have fun. Catch beautiful memories. Let yourself laugh, rest, wander, and just be. Notice the light. The small details. Let the calm sink in — not just for now, but so you can return to it later, like a picture you can revisit in your mind. Balance the joy and the stillness. Collect moments that feel like goodness — they’ll stay with you longer than you think. And if something inside you whispers that it’s time to support yourself more regularly — listen to that, too.
Rest isn’t selfish. It’s essential.
