Today is International Women’s Day – so here is a small reflection from my experience and observations.
In my hypnotherapy sessions I work mainly with women, and there is something I see very often in my work. Most often these are women who have done a great deal in their lives. They have experienced a lot, they have a lot of knowledge, and they often carry a great deal on their shoulders. In their lives there is often simply a lot of everything.
And on one hand this is beautiful. It is a great strength. But on the other hand, very often it happens at their own expense. And over time that cost simply becomes too high.
And that is usually when they come to me. Where slowly they begin rebuilding themselves and their space, their calm. Their resources, plans and dreams. Small steps forward.
And I must say that I am incredibly proud of them. Because the strength and determination of women truly impress me. I strongly believe that there is a great deal of strength in every one of us. In fact, not only in women – simply in human beings. I truly believe that every person has this inner strength within them.
Sometimes it is only temporarily covered, hidden away, pushed aside, buried, squeezed, strained or bruised. And then the very act of rediscovering and restoring it becomes a great strength in itself.
Returning to balance
Personally, I have also been at that stage more than once in my life. I was managing, giving, pushing forward. Forgetting about myself. And today I consciously try every day not to do that and to choose BALANCE – a middle ground. That means regularly recharging my batteries. Not only the ones in my phone.
So balance between the part of me that manages, acts and takes responsibility… and the part that remembers about herself. About her resources and her batteries.
Because the truth is that when a woman has her resources and energy recharged, and remembers about herself first, she can move mountains.
But very often in the pace of life we forget. We speed up. Sometimes because we have to, and sometimes because we want to. And a speeding woman is a little like a speeding car. Until she consciously takes her foot off the accelerator, slows down for a moment and pauses… the car simply keeps going.
And there is something else I often notice in my work.
Most of us do not actually need more strength, more effort, more “just a little more”. If we need MORE of anything today, it is usually this: MORE
GENTLENESS
RESPECT TOWARDS OURSELVES
UNDERSTANDING
CALM
SLEEP
REST
TENDERNESS
CARE TOWARDS OURSELVES
And very often this is exactly where real change begins.
And this is what I wish for you, dear women.
Gentleness and understanding towards yourselves.
And although today is Women’s Day and I am glad that we can pause for a moment and appreciate women, I also truly believe something else.
Every human being matters.
And every person sometimes needs to pause for a moment to reconnect with their space and their resources.
So perhaps instead of celebrating women, men and all these divisions, we could simply celebrate being human.
Every single day.
Warm wishes,
Marta Watroba
